Sahar Hasan is a Yemeni-American artist, curator, and nonprofit founder. She has received multiple international awards and was recognized as a Yemeni arts ambassador at a UNESCO-affiliated event and the first Yemeni artist honored by New York State for her contributions to the arts and Arab-American empowerment.

Sahar Hasan Bio
Sahar’s passion for art has been evident since a young age. She has worked as an assistant professor of water photography at Brooklyn College and has curated exhibitions in New York and internationally.
She is the founder of Qamaria for Arts, a nonprofit that supports displaced and underrepresented artists, and has served as a juror for multiple art competitions. Sahar has held four solo exhibitions and participated in numerous group shows and biennales across the USA, Europe, and the Middle East.
She works across various mediums and techniques, often combining oil paint with acrylic and stained glass. Her visual language draws from “Qamaria,” the traditional Yemeni window, as well as ancient fabrics. Her style bridges realism and abstraction. Recurring themes include horses and figures in traditional textiles, through which she builds narrative and centers identity. Her work reflects the rich visual heritage of Yemen and the broader Arab world. By integrating text and pattern, she merges drawing and writing, celebrating Arabic calligraphy, regional architecture, and cultural motifs.
Through curatorial projects and cultural initiatives, Sahar creates platforms for artists from conflict-affected and marginalized communities. She fosters dialogue on Arab identity, memory, and resilience. Her efforts have brought visibility, support, and recognition to often-overlooked voices in the art world.
